The Pinker Tones recently launched “Estirado Al Sol,” the first video off their new album. “I wrote the lyrics of the song last summer in Formentera, a small island in the Mediterranean where I basically spent my days laying in the sun,” Mister Furia says. “I realized that in that position all my senses worked a mile a minute, smell, touch, sight, hearing and thinking and decided to write about what my senses felt. A jolt of guitar pop full of magic realism. The video is inspired by the beach in Barcelona.”

With the track, “Sampleame,” the group takes on the controversial sampling debate. “This is our little revolutionary statement,” Profesor Manso explains. “A sound collage where I talk against the hypocrisy that often hides behind copyright. The music industry is changing at breakneck speed and the rules of the game are not the same anymore. In my opinion, it is equally acceptable to take old soda cans and create a sculpture as it is to sample away bits of old songs to create a new one. Rather than stealing, sampling gives homage to our predecessors.”

On “Tokyo,” Mister Furia explores a city in which he’s never been but has always intrigued him. “Some of our favorite music, technology, clothes, pop icons and gadgets come from Tokyo,” he explains. And we actually sold our very first vinyl albums in the city. But for one reason or another, we never actually went there. We've ‘almost’ been there many times, but never actually made it. We are often asked, ‘How was your experience playing in Japan? I know you're huge over there...’ Hence the inspiration for Tokyo.”

The physical album’s tracks surround three conceptual mini-instrumentals; “Con Mi Camara,” “Invaders” and “Pinkerland Vibes.” On the iTunes version of the album, fans will also be able to download extended versions of the instrumentals. “We love unveiling part of the process, a fragment of a song,” Manso says. “They are teasers for what later will be a finished track.”

The Pinker Tones’ tracks have been featured in a variety of leading TV shows, films, ad campaigns and video games - from HBO’s Entourage to Ford Fusion and Fox Searchlight’s “Nick And Norah’s Infinite Playlist” to FIFA Soccer. Last year, the group won “Best Electronica Song” for their smash hit “SEXYROBOT” at Spain’s prestigious “Premios De La Musica.”

Over the past several years, The Pinker Tones have brought their electrifying set to fans across the U.S. as well as to such faraway places as London, Buenos Aires, Moscow, Toronto, Beijing and Johannesburg. They were the only international act to spend the entire summer on the Warped Tour and have also performed multiple times on KCRW’s “Morning Becomes Eclectic.”

With ‘Modular,’ The Pinker Tones recruited drummer Robert Guibiaqui into the studio and had him play on the entire album. Guibiaqui will also join the group on the road as their live setup has completely evolved from DJ setup to full band rock show, continuing on the group’s path to global domination.

“While we were finishing the tour for ‘Wild Animals,’ it was very clear to us that we were wanting to do something entirely different both in the studio and the live show,” Manso says. “The idea to bring on a drummer was a very natural part in the development from a DJ group that also plays instruments to a rock band that incorporates electronic elements.”
